The Elections Department (ELD) has confirmed that operations related to the upcoming general election have not been affected by a ransomware attack that targeted its printing vendor, Toppan Next Tech (TNT).
In a media response issued on 8 April, ELD stated that voter data for GE2025 has not yet been provided to TNT.
It added that it has worked with the vendor to enhance relevant processes to minimise risks stemming from the cyber-security incident.
“ELD will monitor the situation closely and work with TNT to safeguard the integrity of GE-related operations,” a spokesperson for the department said.
TNT was targeted in a ransomware attack on 1 April, which affected two of its clients in the banking sector: DBS Bank and the Bank of China’s Singapore branch. As a result, data from over 11,000 customers of the two banks was compromised.
Following the incident, ELD said it immediately conducted checks to determine whether any of its operations had been compromised. According to its preliminary investigations, there was no indication that any ELD-related data had been affected.
TNT previously served as a vendor during the 2023 Presidential Election. In that instance, an error led to more than 4,800 households in Tanjong Pagar GRC receiving duplicate poll cards due to the inclusion of test prints.
