When traveling to Broome in Western Australia, we would highly recommend taking a plane ride to see the remote Kimberley region from a bird’s eye view.

During our trip last year, we embarked on a journey to Cygnet Bay with Air Kimberley, taking us from Broome to the historic Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm to stay for a night before flying back the next day.

Departing from Broome, Air Kimberley provides a seamless and scenic flight to Cygnet Bay.

We were treated to panoramic vistas of the Kimberley coastline, including the renowned Horizontal Falls and Buccaneer Archipelago.
The pilots, noted for their professionalism and informative commentary, enhance the journey by sharing insights into the region’s geography and history.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into the tranquil environment of Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, Australia’s oldest operating pearl farm.
Accommodation options range from en-suite safari tents, offering a ‘glamping’ experience, to more traditional cabins, all designed to provide comfort amidst the rugged beauty of the Kimberley. We stayed in the safari tent and found it to be modern and comfortable, with all the creature comfort we needed from air-conditioning to a hot shower.

The on-site restaurant serves fresh, locally sourced cuisine, with the pearl meat ceviche being a standout dish, right at the end, after our host carved our fresh pearls from the live oysters.

Experiences and Activities
Staying overnight allowed for a deeper immersion into the unique experiences Cygnet Bay offers:

Pearl Farm Tours: Gain an understanding of the intricate process of pearl cultivation. Knowledgeable guides share the history and techniques that have made Cygnet Bay pearls renowned worldwide.

Giant Tides Sea Safaris: Experience the natural phenomenon of the Kimberley’s giant tides. These boat tours offer thrilling encounters with tidal movements and marine life, providing a unique perspective on the region’s natural forces.

We love the comprehensive nature of the Cygnet Bay experience, providing the perfect mix of the best of the Kimberley, with the seamless integration of scenic flights, cultural insights, and natural wonders.
The staff at Cygnet Bay are amazing too and were very knowledgeable in offering a hands-on understanding of pearl cultivation.
