SINGAPORE: The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums for various vehicle categories closed mostly higher in the latest bidding exercise on Wednesday, 9 April 2025.

Box 2

In Category A, which covers cars with engine capacities of 1,600cc and below, and horsepower not exceeding 130bhp, premiums increased to S$97,724, up from S$94,502 in the previous exercise.

Similarly, premiums for larger and more powerful vehicles in Category B rose to S$117,899, compared to S$116,890 last time.

The COE for commercial vehicles, including goods vehicles and buses, saw a decrease to S$68,782, from S$70,089 previously.

Box 3

Motorcycle premiums also experienced an uptick, closing at S$9,889, up from S$9,511.

Open category COEs, which are often used for larger vehicles, rose slightly to S$117,002, from S$116,991.

The latest bidding saw a total of 4,734 bids, with 2,882 COEs available for allocation.

Box 4

The increase in COE premiums is believed to be one factor behind a 30% rise in vehicle rental demand, particularly during the Hari Raya period, as many families opt for rental services instead of committing to the high costs of car ownership.

To address concerns over the availability of private-hire cars, the Land Transport Authority introduced measures last month aimed at stabilising the supply of such vehicles, including requiring the disclosure of a vehicle’s history for all newly registered, converted, or transferred private-hire cars.
