Chinese New Year is often the best excuse we have to pause our diets and truly indulge in the festivities, and for 2026, we are turning our attention back to a heartwarming local favourite. You might remember our coverage of He Bakes last year when we fell in love with their “homemade with love” philosophy, and we are thrilled to share that they are back to serve us for the Year of the Horse.

What makes He Bakes different from a sea of commercialised festive treats is the touching story behind the brand.

The master chef and founder, Mr He Jinzeng, is a veteran baker with 23 years of experience ranging from retail to manufacturing. Most importantly, he is also the doting father to two daughters, Yurou and Yuxuan. These two “princesses” are the biggest fans of his creations, and their encouragement was the spark that led him to start He Bakes. When you bite into one of his cookies, you are tasting a father’s dedication to his craft and his family.

Consistency is key when it comes to CNY goodies, and He Bakes has maintained the high standards that earned them a steady pool of customers over the years. We are glad to see the return of the Golden Pineapple Pops ($48), lovingly nicknamed “GOLI” for their resemblance to round toy marbles. These were a flagship item in our 2025 review, and they remain a must-have for their melt-in-the-mouth texture that perfectly balances sweet and tangy pineapple notes.

If you are looking for continuity from our previous favourites, the Garlic Truffle Cookies ($28) are back. We previously mentioned we could finish a whole container of these in one sitting, and that sentiment has not changed. The bold, savoury gourmet twist is unlike anything else on the market and serves as a fantastic palate cleanser amidst the usual sweet treats. For those who prefer a classic indulgence, the Chocolate Sea Salt ($28) remains a top seller, offering that gooey, rich chocolate experience elevated by a hint of salt that appeals to both kids and adults.

For something visually striking and earthy, the Japanese Purple Sweet Potato ($28) offers a wholesome sweetness with a vibrant hue that pops on the snack table.

If you want a more luxurious bite, do not miss the limited-edition Salted Egg Yolk Pineapple Balls ($48), where rich savoury yolk meets zesty pineapple paste.
