After nearly two years of renovations, City Square Mall is now in full bloom with a refreshed look, a revitalised tenant mix, and a renewed mission to connect and uplift the community. To mark the mall’s soft launch, a heartwarming and record-breaking initiative brought together students, seniors, and residents in a vibrant display of unity and creativity.

In partnership with local organisations throughout June, the mall invited the community to fold 1,788 origami flowers that now fill a large acrylic sculpture spelling out “CSM” in the atrium. The result? A new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the “Largest Acrylic Sculpture Filled With Origami Flowers” — a colourful celebration of togetherness and resilience. Plans are already in the works to use this installation for future community-driven initiatives.

A Heartfelt Day Out for Seniors
One of the most touching moments of the initiative took place on 17 June, when 17 seniors from Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital’s Community Care Centre at McNair were treated to a special outing. They spent the morning folding origami flowers with volunteers, sharing stories and laughter, before enjoying a meal hosted by Food Republic. The initiative not only created meaningful memories, but also empowered seniors—aged 66 to 85—to contribute to a cause, reinforcing their sense of purpose and belonging in the spirit of SG60’s intergenerational unity.

Guessing for Good: Engaging the Online Community
From 24 to 28 June, City Square Mall extended the celebration to its online community with a fun Instagram giveaway, inviting followers to guess the total number of origami flowers in the sculpture. Five winners will receive $50 F&B vouchers, a reusable bag, and an umbrella from MindSpace, with the results to be revealed later today.
More Than a Mall: A Vibrant Third Space

Beyond its retail offerings, City Square Mall is positioning itself as a “third space” — a welcoming environment where people can gather beyond home and work. Two new community hubs help bring this vision to life:
- Gastro Square (Level 4): A 24,000 sq ft space brimming with diverse dining options, live music performances by MusicDreamer! Live Cafe, and community workshops that encourage connection and creativity.
- Discovery Square (Level 5): An interactive zone featuring a sequin wall where visitors can swipe, doodle, or leave positive messages. A mini version is also located at B2 near Hi Hot Pot, inviting spontaneous moments of play and positivity.
A Longstanding Commitment to Giving Back
Since opening in 2009, City Square Mall has consistently championed community-focused efforts. Ongoing initiatives include a children’s book donation drive—where shoppers can contribute pre-loved storybooks at the B2 Customer Service Counter. These books will be donated to the Jalan Besar Community Club Library Corner, supporting children’s literacy in the neighbourhood.
Last December, the mall hosted a festive charity event attended by Mayor Denise Phua, gifting over $1,300 worth of back-to-school items and toys to underprivileged children in the Kampong Glam district.
Looking Ahead
City Square Mall continues to grow as a family-friendly, inclusive space rooted in community spirit. Upcoming plans include educational tours for students focused on sustainability, in line with its identity as Singapore’s first eco-mall.
