Play For Dream Technology, a spatial entertainment company based in Shanghai, is launching the Play for Dream MR (mixed reality) headset. Having dipped their toes into a previous foray into their own VR headsets, the market has since shifted with the device of choice being in the spotlight being Apple Vision Pro.
Play For Dream's Android-powered MR headset has made its debut in Singapore and the company is heading towards an October 2024 launch window for Singapore and Malaysia. Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan will see launch sometime in 2025.

The headset features impressive specifications consisting of an 8K Micro-OLED display and a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 CPU at the heart of the device. Weighing 288 grams, the Play For Dream MR headset fits comfortably on the head, and weight distribution was balanced as we moved around the demo room.
Play for Dream MR touts a screen size of over 1,000 inches with a 3840 x 3552 resolution consisting of 3882 pixels per inch across a 103-degree field of view. All of this translates into a high level of clarity across a variety of content types from movie trailers to event footage.

To navigate the menus on the headset, users have input options in the form of a physical controller or gesture controls.
The biggest upside to the headset at the moment is its ability to stream and connect to a Windows PC allowing users to access a wide range of gaming content through Steam. The entire Windows desktop is mirrored in the headset allowing users to design their own windows and multitask like a pro.

“Singapore is one of the most innovative cities in the world and a preferred hub for many high-tech companies. We hope to start our global expansion from here and impact the Asia-Pacific region over time,” said Huang Feng, Founder and CEO of Play for Dream Technology. The company announced that it will launch its marketing headquarters in Singapore.
All that remains to be seen is the final price the Play for Dream MR will launch at but it's teasing that it will come in at $1X99 USD. Considering that The Apple Vision Pro costs S$5,299 in SingaporePlay for Dream MR can price itself competitively to attract early adopters.
