In a video posted to his Facebook page on Tuesday (3 June), Chee revealed he is preparing for the event, which will take place from 6 to 8 June.

The event, titled Walk The Talk, was first launched in 2007 and was last held in 2015.

“I’m preparing for the event called Walk The Talk. It was almost 20 years ago when I first started it in 2007, and the last time we did this was in 2015,” said Chee in the video.

“I’ll be walking the perimeter of the country this Friday to Sunday, 6 to 8 June, all for the cause of raising funds for the SDP.”

He added that the walk will take him through various estates and constituencies over the three days, during which he hopes to meet residents along the way—possibly at kopitiams or in their neighbourhoods.

The party will also provide updates and livestreams on social media at various points, allowing supporters to follow him on his long journey over the three days.

Last Walk Held in 2015; Application Rejected in 2020

The last Walk The Talk event took place in November 2015.

Chee began a four-day, 140km walk around the island, starting at Hong Lim Park.

The initiative aimed to raise both funds and public awareness for the SDP.

At the flag-off, Chee was joined by four supporters—three members of the SDP central executive committee and one party volunteer.

During the walk, he had planned to sleep in a lorry loaned by a party supporter and conducted the journey solo.

He also noted that members of the public were not invited to join, as such participation would have constituted a public procession under the Public Order Act—an activity requiring a police permit.

In 2020, however, the SDP announced on Facebook that its application to hold Walk The Talk again had been rejected by the police.

Authorities cited public health concerns, stating that “cause-based activities might cause crowds to gather, and put the public and participants at higher risk of Covid-19 infection.”

With pandemic restrictions no longer in place, Chee is now set to revive the initiative in 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to engage the public and rally support for the party.

Netizens Show Support

Under Chee’s Facebook post announcing the event, many netizens expressed their support and encouragement.

Several commenters reminded him to take care of his health during the walk, urging him to stay hydrated and protect himself from the sun.

One advised, “Wear a hat, please. So hot, you don’t want to get heat stroke or sunburn.”

The commenter also reminded Chee to stay hydrated and suggested drinking some Hydralyte before starting the walk.

Others expressed hope of meeting him during the journey, with one enthusiastic supporter writing, “Let’s go, do the long march together!”
