Two weeks after its launch on August 19, Game Science announced that Black Legend: Wukong Still on the rise, with headline-grabbing title Surpassed 10 million sales in just three daysFor Daniel Wu, founder of Hero Games, the studio's largest outside shareholder, this is just the first step in their journey to success.
During an interview with BloombergWu revealed that Game Science will be working on a DLC expansion in Veins. The shadow of the iridium treea Ring of Fire The DLC was released in June. “It won’t take another six years for the next chapter in what is planned to be a series based on Chinese mythology — though it won’t be a sequel,” Wu said. According to Bloomberg, “Game Science is working on an expansion for Wukong, which would give it a chance to monetize the game for a second time. 2022’s Elden Ring , a game with similar gameplay and design, showed how an expansion release — Shadow of the Erdtree this year — could spark a new wave of sales for the original.”
In addition to discussing future plans, Wu also talked about the beginnings of both companies, particularly Apple CEO Tim Cook's visit to Hero Games, which led to a project that ultimately failed, and Game Science's “four failures in a row” that preceded the success it enjoys today.
But it's not all sunshine and roses, as Wu also points out that “2024 will be the most terrible year ever for China's gaming industry,” with increasing numbers of doomed games that will never see the light of day, seemingly abandoned as a result of the country's economic difficulties.
With success Black Legend: WukongWu hopes to spark interest in other game studios, inspiring more of them to create games that showcase China's history and culture, as well as gain the confidence to develop their games on consoles.
