East side, best side! Hong Kong’s cult teppan steak concept, Bari Bari Steak, has officially opened its first ever outlet in Singapore at Tampines One. Marking the brand’s debut outside of Hong Kong, the new opening brings its signature hot stone teppan experience to the heart of the east.

At Bari Bari Steak, each teppan set is served medium rare after being seared on an iron griddle, before arriving on a high-density hot stone. The stone allows diners to finish their steak exactly the way they prefer, adding an interactive and customisable element to the dining experience.

During our visit, we were recommended the Australian Angus Oyster Blade Steak Teppan. The steak arrived medium rare, juicy and nicely seared. One thing that stood out was the hot stone setup. Steak usually cools down quite quickly, but here we could reheat the meat while eating at our own pace. For those who prefer a more well-done finish, the stone also makes it easy to cook the steak a little further.

The meats can be paired with three sauces from Bari Bari Steak. The Signature Bari Bari Sauce was our favourite, a dark, tangy sauce with a slight sweetness that worked especially well with the beef. The Miyazaki Yakiniku Sauce was bolder and more onion-forward, while the Yuzu Onion Sauce offered a lighter and more refreshing option.

We also tried the Chicken Leg and Wagyu Hamburg Steak Teppan, which was served on a hot stone as well. The wagyu hamburg steak was soft but still held its shape, avoiding the mushy texture that hamburg steaks can sometimes have. It came with a creamy sauce that paired well with the richness of the meat. The chicken leg was equally enjoyable, remaining juicy and silky, with no hint of dryness or overcooking.

To balance out the richness of the teppans, we opted for a few sides. The Grilled Ika was tender with a light char, making it a refreshing break from the richer beef dishes. The portion was great for sharing, and the mayonnaise on the side brought out the natural sweetness of the squid nicely.

We also enjoyed the Black Truffle Mayo Fried Gyoza, which was served on a hot stone plate. The truffle mayo was generous and added an indulgent touch to the classic pork and chives filling, giving the familiar gyoza a more elevated finish.

The drinks menu offers a good mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. We were recommended the Natsu No Yuki, a mocktail made with lime juice, blue curacao and Sprite, garnished with a cherry. It was visually pleasing and refreshing.

We also tried the highballs, which stood out for being well-balanced. Unlike the diluted versions often found at casual dining spots, these retained a clear whisky flavour without being overpowering.

Every teppan set at Bari Bari Steak comes with access to the free flow salad and dessert bar. The spread includes fresh greens, rice and a selection of desserts, adding value and variety to the overall meal.
