Housed in a former school library, the elegant cocktail bar carries the quiet solemnity of a private chapel, with vaulted ceilings and flickering candlelight. Bar Manager Mel Chavez populates the menu with modern Italian classics and culinary-led creations. The Amatriciana, inspired by the Italian pasta sauce, is a deliciously savoury sip of guanciale-infused vodka and tomato, while the smooth EVOOtini draws on the aromatic notes of extra virgin olive oil.
While Somma sits just upstairs, you won’t even have to leave the bar for a full meal, from starters to dessert. Start with the oyster mushrooms with beetroot ketchup – a flavourbomb of tangy, umami and earthy. Pasta, naturally, is the star of the show; the radiatori tossed with sweet river crab and smoky speck is rich, flavoursome and satiating. Oh, and by the way, guests who arrive during Golden Hour, which runs from 6pm to 7.30pm Tuesdays to Saturdays, are treated to a complimentary serving of Rigatoni Carbonara with their first cocktail order.
