Other incidents at Jewel Changi Airport

In August 2019, a toddler died as a result of a tragic misadventure. A mirror fell on 18-month-old Lai Jiaxin in one of the fashion boutiques at the airport. State Coroner Kamala Ponnampalam said in April 2020 that the little girl’s mother had accepted that the child’s death had been accidental and that no one was to blame for it. After the incident, the store implemented changes in order to prevent such incidents.

In 2019, a woman injured her hand on the ropes at Sky Net at the then-newly opened Canopy Park. The woman had got her foot stuck on a rope, and then cut her hand on the hard rope when she fell. An attendant administered first aid right away, which the woman said she was thankful for in a post on social media. She also warned parents to be careful when their children visit the attraction.

Last December, a car overturned near the entrance to the airport’s car park. Four people received medical attention from SCDF officers at the scene, though they declined to be taken to hospital for further evaluation. The police told Mothership afterwards that no case had been filed and that the matter was being resolved privately. /TISG
