Past midnight: Singapore’s after-dark cocktail bars

Date:

Box 1

The night doesn’t have to end when the clocks strike 12. In a city where most cocktail bars pour their last drink by midnight, there are some that are keeping the shakers moving and the good vibes flowing well into the wee hours. Singapore’s after-dark scene has been quietly growing if you know where to look, with world-class cocktails, cutting-edge DJ sets and a full-fledged food menu to take care of the late-night munchies. Here are some of our favourite bars that keep the lights on for anyone not quite ready to call it a night.

1. The Backdrop

Box 2

The lush cabaret-inspired speakeasy hidden in voco Orchard hotel is one of the city’s best bars, and one of the rare few on Orchard Road where you can still get a handcrafted cocktail at 1am. The Backdrop, currently on Volume 3: The Golden Era of their cocktail menu, is known for its meticulous, almost alchemical creations and elevated bar bites.

Founder Dario Knox shares, “With Singapore’s extended nightlife hours, we’re seeing guests rediscover the joy of staying out late and taking their time. After midnight, the room shifts into its most seductive form: lower lights, deeper music and a plethora of delicious tapas ranging from grilled octopus and filled pastas to caviar bites. It’s not just about having a drink late – it’s about stepping into a different world before heading home.”

The Backdrop is open till 2am Wed–Thu & Sun, and till 3am Fri–Sat (closed Mon–Tue)

2. Millim

Box 3

A little further down Orchard Road’s renowned shopping district is the vibey drinking den Millim. Housed on the third floor of COMO Orchard, it’s the companion bar to upscale Korean steakhouse COTE.

3. Bae’s Cocktail Club

One of the hottest late-night spots in Tanjong Pagar, Bae’s Cocktail Club pairs club-level energy with bartender-led cocktails, inspired by Gangnam’s nightlife and the decadent private parties of West Hollywood. Here, you can sip on elegant tipples created by co-founder Vijay Mudaliar, groove to live hip-hop DJ sets and even satisfy late-night cravings with Korean-inspired bites like the crowd-favourite Ram-don.

The latest from the prolific Jigger & Pony Group, BOP offers Korean-inspired cocktails and chef-led dishes for your late-night enjoyment. The warm, design-forward bar has quickly become beloved for its well-crafted but easy-drinking creations, including the unexpected Iced Somaek, served with shaved soju ice. “In Korea, drinking usually doesn’t end after the first round. As we go into the second round and the third round, the night flows and the conversations become more honest and the mood more relaxed,” shares co-owner Uno Jang. “For me, that is when a bar truly becomes a third space: not just a spot to drink, but somewhere to belong.”
