The Plump Frenchman

For rustic, unpretentious French cooking, head down to this lively spot on the corner of Bugis – a warm, relaxed space ideally suited for family dinners and casual get-togethers. Led by Chef Lorenz Hoja (formerly of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon), the restaurant delivers full-flavoured fare and rotisserie classics with heart. Start with half a dozen succulent Cadoret oysters, fresh from France, and the oh-so-delicious Chipirons – baby squid with chorizo, parsley and lemon.

For mains, the delicate, flaky Flounder Meunière, buttery and pan-seared with finesse, is a timeless classic. The true showstopper, however, is Chef’s Chicken Rice – an indulgent take of the iconic local dish featuring a perfectly roasted chicken, uni cream and prawns on pilaf rice. It’s also the natural centrepiece at Sunday brunch, where diners can toast to the weekend with free-flow wine, gin & tonic, and cocktails.
