At a Glance:

The Tigresses will enter the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season still in rebuilding mode, but with clearer direction and stronger foundations than they had a year ago. After a major squad overhaul early in 2025, the team spent the season resetting its culture, focusing on fitness, discipline, and mindset instead of short-term results. With a young squad gaining experience and confidence, the process targets now are: being braver in possession, more aggressive in attack, and more resilient as a collective.

From the Camp:

Farhan Farook, Head Coach

On the key focus of the 2025 season
“It was about looking beyond results and committing to a developmental reset. We focused on fitness, discipline, team culture and mindset within a young squad.”

On growth beyond results
“The players were more motivated, less afraid to attack, and supportive of one another. Training habits changed as well with more reflection and a desire to improve.”

On lessons learned as a squad
“We created a culture where it is okay to make mistakes, okay to ask for feedback and okay to explore options. The players learned they could be brave and not be afraid to try.”

On what success looks like for Balestier in 2026
“For 2026, we want to be more brave with the ball, more aggressive and of course score more goals. We are preparing a new team and I already see improvements in fitness, mindset and aggression.”

On the identity of the Tigresses now
“If I describe the Tigresses in one sentence, we will be a resilient and fighting team in the league. In one word: fighters.”

Sharifah Nur Amanina, Captain and Attacking Midfielder

On the mentality needed in a rebuilding year
“Even though we lose games, I take those as lessons, and I tell myself to keep going no matter what.”

On lifting the team when results are tough
“I always try to encourage my teammates and remind them to keep going, no matter how many mistakes we make. Belief is important because without it, we cannot do what the coaches tell us to do.”

On personal growth and 2026 goals
“I want to be more confident and stay consistent on the field. I want to help the team more.”

Hannah Teo, Centre midfielder

On enduring difficult moments together
“At the start of last season, there wasn’t really much cohesion throughout the team, but with [more] trainings and matches, we really have bonded a lot and there’s a lot of banter within the team. I think that has really made our team feel like family, which is really important.”

On stepping up and taking responsibility
“With younger players around me, I feel a greater sense of responsibility on the pitch. I want to show leadership and help them on and off the field.”

On confidence going into the new season
“I can really see that this group is more aggressive and willing to fight. I feel confident and excited for next season.”
