MALAYSIA: A 30-year-old Malaysian factory worker allegedly killed her two-year-old daughter and attempted to strangle her seven-year-old son before taking her own life in what police believe was caused by distress linked to a relationship dispute.
According to the Oriental Daily News, the shocking incident took place on Tuesday night (Nov 4) in Taman Perak.
Police responding to a distress call found the woman hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom, with an aluminium ladder nearby. Her young daughter was discovered lying motionless on a mattress and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman had attempted to kill both of her children before committing suicide. Authorities believe the case may be related to a romantic dispute.
Police said that, based on evidence gathered at the scene, the woman is suspected of having suffocated her daughter with an unidentified object before turning on her son. The seven-year-old boy reportedly survived after the knot used to strangle him slipped, allowing him to escape and seek help from neighbours.
The boy, who sustained ligature marks on his neck and an injury to his chin, was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. He is reported to be in stable condition.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
