With C-section deliveries on the rise in Singapore, Mead Johnson Nutrition has launched Enfagrow A+ Pro C-Biome, a growing-up milk formulated to support stronger immunity and gut health in children, including those delivered via C-section.

According to national health data, C-section rates in Singapore increased from 32% in 2005 to 37% in 2014, the highest among ASEAN countries. Today, around 4 in 10 children in Singapore are born via C-section. Experts highlight that C-section children may experience differences in gut microbiome development, as they miss out on exposure to maternal microbiota during delivery. This could affect their immunity and gut health in early childhood.
The launch event, held at FairPrice VivoCity, featured insights from paediatrician Dr. Kao Pao-Tang of IBCA@Parkway Medicentre and actress Sora Ma, an Enfagrow A+ mum.
Dr. Kao stressed the importance of nutrition in supporting microbiome diversity, especially in the first few years of life when the gut microbiome develops rapidly. “C-section children may have less diverse gut bacteria, which can affect immune strength. But with the right nutrition, parents can help strengthen their child’s immunity even after infancy,” he explained.

Sora Ma also shared her personal experience as a C-section mother: “I was naturally concerned about my child’s health and only later learned about the impact of C-section on gut microbiome.
