Part museum, part foundation office, this unique building was spearheaded by Barcelona-born artist Joan Miró himself. He commissioned his friend, architect Josep Lluís Sert, to create the white concrete building, a masterpiece of rationalist architecture with Mediterranean features like its central patio and skylights. Opened in 1975, the museum now has an expansive collection of Miró’s work – over 11,000 pieces, including paintings, sculptures and drawings – and also hosts modern art exhibitions and cultural events.
