This October, prepare to witness a concert unlike any other as Ding Yi Music Company, in collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), presents Battle Scores: a thrilling fusion of Chinese chamber music and wuxia fantasy.

On 18 October 2025, the SCCC Auditorium will be transformed into a jianghu universe, where music and martial arts collide. Five iconic Chinese instruments, the huqin, dizi, guzheng, percussion, and suona, take centre stage as avatars of legendary martial arts sects: Shaolin, Wudang, Emei, Kunlun, and Huashan. Through fiery musical duels and dramatic clashes of sound, the instruments bring to life a saga of ambition, rivalry, and reflection.
Tradition Meets Innovation
Battle Scores marks the first time Ding Yi incorporates shadow puppetry, performed by actors Gordon Choy and Vanessa Toh, adding a theatrical layer to the unfolding rivalries. Combined with wushu-inspired stage movements and the intensity of live Chinese chamber music, the performance reimagines traditional art forms in a bold, cinematic way.
Helmed by acclaimed theatremaker Chong Tze Chien, Festival Director of the Singapore International Festival of Arts, the concert extends his creative partnership with Ding Yi after past works like The Zodiac Race. The show is anchored by a full-length original score from Taiwanese composer Hannah Hsieh, written to capture the energy, tension, and lyricism of a martial-arts-inspired musical world.
