On the night of 7 September 2025, Singapore will witness a spectacular Total Lunar Eclipse, the first visible here in nearly three years.
When to Watch
The celestial show begins at 11.28pm on 7 September and continues until 4.55am on 8 September, with the peak “blood moon” phase happening between 1.30am and 2.52am. During this period, the Moon will glow in shades of deep red and orange, a striking effect caused by sunlight bending through Earth’s atmosphere and scattering away shorter wavelengths of light.
What to Expect
As Earth aligns directly between the Sun and Moon, our planet’s shadow will gradually blanket the lunar surface. The Moon will first dim before shifting into its dramatic reddish hue, offering a rare, hours-long spectacle that can be viewed across half the globe including Singapore.
Eclipse Facts & Tips
- Last Seen Here: The last Total Lunar Eclipse visible from Singapore was on 8 November 2022. A March 2025 eclipse occurred but was not visible locally.
- Best Viewing: The eclipse will be visible overhead across the island, just look up. Do note that cloud cover may affect visibility, so check the weather forecast for clearer skies.
- No Equipment Needed: The eclipse is visible to the naked eye, making it one of the most accessible astronomical events.
