SINGAPORE: Residents in multiple housing estates have reported recurring cases of parcels being left unattended at HDB void decks, prompting concerns over security and delivery practices.
According to local outlet Stomp, residents in Tampines and Tengah were the latest to flag such incidents, with items found left unsupervised in common areas.
On 4 August 2025, at about 10.30pm, a resident observed a cluster of parcels at Tampines Street 84.
The individual, wary of liability, photographed the parcels from a distance, remarking that “no wonder so many people have missing parcels.”
Another Tampines resident shared a video of delivery packages left at the void deck of Block 256 Tampines Street 21.
The resident alleged that parcels were “often left overnight.”
In Tengah, parcels marked with SPX Express labels were left at Block 220B Tengah Garden Walk on 9 August at around 5.30pm.
Shopee, which works with third-party logistics partners including SPX Express, responded to Stomp by stating it takes such concerns seriously and is reviewing practices with partners.
The company added, “We regret any inconvenience caused and remain committed to safe and responsible delivery practices.”
Repeated incidents across estates
This issue is not confined to recent months.
In earlier footage from Yishun’s Block 134, three individuals were seen removing parcels from a van and leaving them scattered at a void deck.
On 1 August, a Woodlands resident photographed parcels scattered at Block 329 Woodlands Street 32 in the early evening.
No delivery personnel were present. The same resident said they had reported a similar case in January 2024 when parcels were left at Block 347 Woodlands Avenue 3, prompting a police report.
A separate video, shared on Complaint Singapore, showed two individuals sorting parcels in an HDB carpark, appearing to throw some packages during the process.
Town councils and past responses
Concerns have also extended to Hougang and Ang Mo Kio.
In December 2024, 8World News reported that Ang Mo Kio Town Council responded to complaints about parcels left near a lift at Block 451 Hougang Avenue 10.
Some packages had torn packaging, though they were removed before the town council inspected the site.
The council spokesperson said its staff continue to monitor shared spaces and encouraged residents to report any instances of obstruction or suspected illegal dumping.
While no specific delivery firm has been directly linked to all incidents, residents note that such practices appear frequent, particularly during peak delivery seasons.
Without active monitoring, parcels left in public areas are vulnerable to theft and damage.
