SINGAPORE: Train services on the North East Line were disrupted between Farrer Park and Punggol Coast MRT stations on 12 August due to a power fault, according to operator SBS Transit.
The disruption, announced at 11.17am, affected 11 stations.
Free bus services and bridging buses were deployed between Punggol Coast and Dhoby Ghaut stations.
SBS Transit also confirmed that Sengkang and Punggol LRT services were unavailable.
Apologising for the incident, it assured efforts were underway to restore normal service.
Social media posts showed large crowds at platforms and concourses, with some reports of a power outage at Sengkang MRT station.
A Reddit user claimed Serangoon MRT experienced a power trip.
One commuter reported hearing a loud crack before a train stalled, followed by a smoky smell.
Some online comments criticised recurring rail disruptions and speculated about fare hikes.
On 10 February 2025, commuters on NEL also faced a two-hour disruption due to a signalling fault at Buangkok station, causing extended travel times and crowded stations.
