SAF regular dies after being found unconscious at Hendon Camp swimming pool

A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular died on 9 August 2025 after being found unconscious at Hendon Camp swimming pool in Changi.

The incident occurred at 7.15am, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) issued the same day.

The serviceman appeared to have been training alone at the time of the incident.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED) were administered immediately after he was found.

The Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the case.

The serviceman was evacuated to Changi General Hospital in an SCDF ambulance, where resuscitation efforts continued en route.

Medical teams at the hospital also attempted to revive him upon arrival.

Despite these efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7.44am.

MINDEF said in its statement that the Singapore Armed Forces extended their deepest condolences to the serviceman’s family.

The ministry also stated that assistance is being rendered to the family during this time of grief.

Hendon Camp, located in Changi, serves as the base of the SAF’s elite Commando formation.

The camp houses specialised training facilities, including the swimming pool where the incident occurred.

As of now, no further details have been released regarding the serviceman’s identity or the cause of death.
