MALAYSIA: On 12 June 2025, Melaka police reported a gruesome murder in Bukit Rambai’s Rambai Mutiara Garden that left two family members dead and one injured.

The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, is accused of killing his mother and elder brother during the early morning hours, in what police have described as a premeditated act rooted in family conflict.

Mother and brother stabbed multiple times

According to Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, initial investigations ruled out the involvement of external parties.

The crime was classified as a domestic homicide involving the suspect’s immediate family members, as reported by Malaysian Chinese media The China Press.

Police believe the suspect initially intended to kill only his mother.

The attack took place around 5 am, while the mother was asleep.

However, during the assault, the 21-year-old elder brother witnessed the act, prompting the suspect to fatally stab him as well.

Both victims sustained multiple stab wounds, including injuries to the neck, waist, and back.

The bodies were discovered in the living room, surrounded by bloodstains.

The weapon, identified as a folding knife approximately 20 centimetres in length, had been concealed in the suspect’s school bag prior to the attack.

Youngest brother injured while resisting

At the time of the incident, the family’s youngest son, aged 13, was also present in the house.

According to police reports, the suspect ordered his younger brother to leave the premises.

However, the younger sibling apparently resisted, resulting in him being stabbed as well.

The 13-year-old managed to make his way outside, where he collapsed on the roadside.

He was later transported to Melaka Central Hospital, where he remains in stable condition under intensive care.

Academic pressure and family tensions contributed to the crime

Police investigations have revealed that the 17-year-old suspect had long-standing grievances against his mother, exacerbated by frequent scoldings over his academic performance.

The suspect was scheduled to sit for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM), the country’s national secondary school examination.

“Based on information from neighbours, the family frequently argued, with the deceased mother and elder brother often scolding the suspect, urging him to focus more on his studies,” Mukhtar said.

“The combination of academic stress and high family expectations may have caused him to lose control emotionally.”

A check on the victim’s social media account showed that her husband had passed away in January this year.

According to China Press, a neighbour revealed that arguments were often heard from the house. Initially, they believed the quarrels were between the couple.

After the victim’s husband passed away six months ago, they expected the disputes to stop but continued hearing arguments thereafter.

Suspect detained and confesses motive

Police arrived at the crime scene promptly and apprehended the suspect without incident.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted that the continuous pressure and criticism from his mother fuelled his resentment and eventually led him to plan the attack.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspect attempted to destroy evidence following the murders.

Surveillance footage and several key items, including the bloodstained school bag containing the weapon, have been seized as evidence.

No drugs or alcohol involved

Mukhtar also confirmed that toxicology tests showed the suspect was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

Police have classified the case purely as a result of escalating domestic tensions.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which pertains to murder.

Further legal proceedings are expected following the completion of the investigation.

The brutal nature of the murders has left the Bukit Rambai community in shock.

Many neighbours, familiar with the family’s history of frequent quarrels, expressed their horror and disbelief at the tragic outcome.

Police continue to gather witness statements and forensic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
