In the days following the conclusion of Singapore’s General Election 2025 (GE2025), Workers’ Party (WP) candidates conducted thank-you parades across the constituencies they contested, expressing appreciation to residents and reflecting on their journeys.
The events, held on 4 May, were followed by a series of social media posts in which candidates acknowledged both the challenges and hopes of the campaign.
Former Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) Yee Jenn Jong, who led the WP team in East Coast GRC, marked what he described as his fourth and final general election.
In a heartfelt message after the thank you parade, he paid tribute to his teammates—Paris V Parameswari, Jasper Kuan, Nathaniel Koh, and Sufyan Mikhail Putra—and commended their dedication and potential.
“GE may be over, but the road ahead is long,” he wrote. “While for me, my political career may have ended, I hope theirs… will continue.” Yee also recognised the efforts of volunteers and former candidates who continued ground work between elections, emphasising that the most difficult period is the five years between contests.
Paris V Parameswari, who was part of the East Coast GRC team, shared that the thank you parade on 4 May was filled with heartfelt moments from residents, including cheers and waves from their windows. She described the campaign as an “extraordinary experience” made unforgettable by team solidarity and community response.
Sufyan Mikhail Putra, also part of the East Coast GRC slate, noted the emotional nature of the event and the deep encouragement received from residents. “We carry your hopes and aspirations with us as we look to the future,” he wrote, promising continued dedication despite the results.
In Punggol, WP candidate Harpreet Singh Nehal reflected on the meaning of the campaign after holding his team’s thank you parade. Though his team did not win the seat, he stated that the campaign had generated “hope, trust, a step forward,” pointing to significant public support as a signal that “something is shifting.”
Teammate Matter Alia, also from the Punggol team, thanked residents for their warmth and said the experience of campaigning was a “privilege of a lifetime.” While accepting the electoral outcome with humility, she reiterated her team’s belief in creating a more balanced political system in Singapore.
In Tampines, Eileen Chong expressed her gratitude to both voters and volunteers following the thank-you parade. She acknowledged the unchanged electoral outcome but highlighted valuable lessons learned during the campaign, including the importance of honest dialogue and the power of community spirit.
In Sengkang GRC, where the WP retained its seat, incumbent MP Louis Chua joined his fellow teammates for a thank-you parade and a subsequent message of appreciation.
Chua recognised the bittersweet nature of the campaign results across Singapore but expressed hope that more Singaporeans would “step up and play a role in shaping the Singapore we wish to see.”
These public reflections follow a mixed outcome for the WP in GE2025, in which it fielded 26 candidates. The party successfully defended its positions in Aljunied GRC, Hougang SMC, and Sengkang GRC, but did not make gains in other constituencies.
The Jalan Kayu, East Coast, Tampines, Marine Parade, and Punggol slates did not secure enough votes to win their contests, although the WP secured two Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) seats through its narrow losses in Jalan Kayu SMC and Tampines GRC.
Despite this, WP members stressed that electoral success is not the sole indicator of progress. Yee Jenn Jong pointed out that victories such as Hougang in 1991, Aljunied in 2011, and Sengkang in 2020 were all preceded by sustained ground engagement.
Yee encouraged supporters to continue backing WP’s future candidates, many of whom he believes have the talent and dedication to serve effectively.
With the GE2025 campaign concluded, the WP is likely to return to its long-standing strategy of year-round constituency engagement, policy advocacy, and preparation for future elections.
Across all messages, WP candidates conveyed a clear intent: to remain present, committed, and connected with the public.
