The candidates are contesting in the same constituencies the SPP contested during the 2020 General Election.

In the last election, the SPP team—then comprising Steve Chia, Melvyn Chiu, Williamson Lee, and former member Osman Sulaiman—secured 32.77 per cent of the vote in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

They lost to the People’s Action Party (PAP) slate led by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.

Ng Eng Hen has since announced his retirement from politics.

PAP introduces new leadership for Bishan-Toa Payoh

This year, the PAP team in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC will be led by Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat.

Joining him are incumbent MP Saktiandi Supaat, charity director Elysa Chen, and social entrepreneur Cai Yinzhou.

The four-member team will face the SPP in a constituency that remains unchanged following the recent Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) report.

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC has 98,505 registered electors and is one of five GRCs to retain its previous boundaries.

This upcoming contest marks Steve Chia’s sixth time standing in a General Election.

He previously served as a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament from 2001 to 2006 after contesting Chua Chu Kang SMC under the Singapore Democratic Alliance.
