SINGAPORE: With the General Election approaching, the Workers’ Party (WP) has called on Singaporeans to volunteer and contribute to building a more inclusive and accountable society.
In a video posted to the party’s Facebook page on Sunday (13 April), WP showcased a diverse group of volunteers—both new and long-time supporters—urging the public to step forward.
“The General Election is coming soon — and the Workers’ Party needs you,” the party wrote in its caption.
“If you believe in a responsible alternative voice in Parliament and a better future for Singapore, join us as a volunteer with the Workers’ Party.”
The video featured individuals from various walks of life, each introducing themselves and sharing why they chose to volunteer.
From house visits to polling duties, the party emphasized that every role matters and no prior experience is required—only “heart and commitment.”
Among the volunteers was senior counsel Harpreet Singh Nehal, who began volunteering with WP during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since becoming a member in 2023, he has been spotted on walkabouts and house visits, donning the party’s signature blue polo shirt.
Singh emphasised the need for greater diversity of views in Parliament.
“For too long, we’ve had just one dominant voice in Parliament. We need more voices, more perspectives, not less,” he said.
He has often been seen in the newly formed Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.
Also featured was account director Jeraldine Phneah, who expressed her desire to help shape “a more compassionate and inclusive society for us to live in,” highlighting her deep concern for Singapore’s future.
Phneah has been actively involved with the party since the 2015 General Election, supporting both the East Coast-Fengshan and Jalan Besar teams.
She has been seen on the ground with WP members, including Deputy Organising Secretary Fadli Fawzi, which has sparked further speculation about WP fielding a female candidate in Marine Parade-Braddell Heights.
Senior property manager Abdul Muhaimin, who has volunteered with WP since 2019, shared that he has also been active in community events in Sengkang GRC since 2023.
Having worked at Aljunied-Hougang Town Council for nearly a decade, Muhaimin has been involved in various events alongside MPs Louis Chua and Assoc Prof Jamus Lim.
Other volunteers featured in the video come from a range of professions, including a plumber, senior systems engineer, housewife, client services manager, and geopolitical risk analyst.
Each shared personal motivations for volunteering, with some emphasizing the desire to hold the government accountable and others wishing to help shape the society they envision.
WP secretary-general Pritam Singh closed the video with a call to action.
“General elections come around once every five years. Many of us want to make a positive contribution to Singapore, a place we call home. This is your moment. Step up, join us, and let’s work together for Singapore.”
