The three-match suspension issued to Lion City Sailors midfielder Song Ui-young has been rescinded with immediate effect, following a thorough review by the Refereeing Technical Panel (RTP).

Box 3

This decision comes after an official protest lodged by the club regarding Song’s sending off in the third minute of the Singapore Cup 2024/25 match against BG Pathum United on 30 March 2025.

Review and Findings

The RTP, chaired by Mr John Chia, conducted a detailed analysis of the incident. After examining video footage and applying the relevant provisions under Law 12 of the Laws of the Game, the panel unanimously determined that while the tackle was reckless, it did not exceed the necessary use of force, nor did it endanger the safety of the opponent.

Therefore, the appropriate disciplinary action should have been a yellow card, not a red card.

Outcome

In accordance with Article 37.4 of the Singapore Cup 2024/25 Regulations, which allows for review in cases involving obvious error, the following actions will be taken:

  • The three-match suspension imposed on Song Ui-young has been rescinded with immediate effect.
  • The red card issued during the match shall remain on record, as per standard competition procedures.

The Football Association of Singapore remains committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring that all decisions are guided by fairness, transparency, and the laws of football.
