ICONSIAM, the riverside lifestyle and cultural landmark in Bangkok, will host the “THAICONIC SONGKRAN CELEBRATION 2025” from 10 to 16 April, 2025. The event is set to be one of Thailand’s most prominent Songkran festivals, backed by a US$1.9 million (approximately 65 million baht) investment.
Held at River Park along the Chao Phraya River, the celebration is expected to draw over 1.4 million local and international visitors. According to ICONSIAM, the festival aims to spotlight Thailand’s cultural richness while contributing to national tourism and economic activity.
Organised under the theme “The Legendary Festival of Waters – A Stream of Thai Charms,” the event blends tradition with modern entertainment. It is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and several public and private partners.
Mr Supoj Chaiwatsirikul, Managing Director of ICONSIAM Co., Ltd., stated that Songkran is more than a celebration—it is a point of national pride and a key cultural export.
He noted that ICONSIAM, recognised as a Global Experiential Destination, is committed to honouring and promoting Thai heritage while creating unforgettable experiences for visitors.
The official opening ceremony will take place on 10 April, 2025, from 5:00 PM onwards. A grand Songkran parade, cultural performances, and mini concerts will launch the festivities, with appearances from celebrities including Chompoo Araya and her daughter Abigail.
The festival’s five major highlights cater to different aspects of the Songkran experience:
- Must Play – The Splash
A 9-metre-tall “Sook-Songkran” water tower, adorned with Thai floral designs, will serve as the centrepiece for water-based activities. A dedicated kids’ zone ensures safe water play, while the ‘Dry & Dash’ area offers spaces for changing and relaxing. - Must Discover – The Traditions
Visitors can witness the crafting of a giant sand pagoda by Thai sand artist Chanathip Chuenbumroong. They may also pour water over a marble Buddha image from the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai and participate in traditional elder-blessing rituals.
This section also includes Nora dance performances—listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage—and showcases of rare classical Thai dances.
- Must Joy – The Celebration
A vibrant parade will feature eight Thai celebrities, including Win Metawin and Bow Maylada. Over 300 mini concerts from artists like Jeff Satur, 4EVE, PROXIE, and Milli will take place during the week. - Must Taste – The Flavours of Thailand
Food lovers can explore regional dishes from across Thailand. Highlights include Khantoke meals from the north, Trang-style grilled pork, Sukhothai noodles, and traditional desserts like mango sticky rice and lod chong.
Over 150 restaurants at ICONSIAM will offer summer treats to keep visitors refreshed.
- Must Buy – Seek the Thai Treasures
Shoppers can browse the exclusive ‘NAKROB MOONMANAS x ICONCRAFT’ Songkran collection and more than 1,000 shops offering Thai handicrafts and seasonal souvenirs at ICONCRAFT, SOOKSIAM, and Siam Takashimaya.
By combining cultural immersion with entertainment and hospitality, the festival promotes Thailand’s heritage and strengthens its profile as a regional tourism hub. It also aligns with national strategies to revitalise cultural tourism.
