MALAYSIA: A massive crocodile was fatally struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while crossing a highway in Brunei on Wednesday (25 Dec).
The incident occurred near the Penanjong Bridge on the Penanjong Tutong Highway, as reported by Brunei FM on its Facebook page.
According to the report, the SUV collided with the crocodile as it tried to cross the busy road, causing severe front-end damage to the vehicle.
Fortunately, the driver was unharmed.
Images of the massive crocodile quickly went viral on social media, with one Facebook user also sharing a video from the scene.
Mixed Reactions from Netizens
The incident sparked mixed reactions from netizens. Many questioned how the driver could have missed the crocodile and ended up hitting it.
One user suggested that the driver must have been speeding and unable to stop in time, speculating that the driver should have seen the crocodile if they were paying attention.
The user expressed sympathy for the animal trying to cross the road.
Another Facebook user proposed two possible explanations: either the driver was speeding and the crocodile appeared too suddenly, or the driver, acting heroically, purposely ran over the crocodile to gain attention.
On a lighter note, many users jokingly referred to the crocodile as a “land crocodile,” a Malay term for someone who is flirtatious or unfaithful.
One user humorously suggested that the crocodile must have drunk a lot of alcohol, losing its senses and possibly celebrating Christmas.
The user remarked, “From a water crocodile to a land crocodile, huh?”
Another user expressed relief that the driver was okay and hoped that the driver’s affairs would be eased.
They pointed out the danger of a crocodile ending up on the road, joking that the crocodile might have wanted to become a “land crocodile” instead.
Meanwhile, one user expressed sympathy for the driver, remarking that neither the driver nor the crocodile was at fault, as no one could have predicted the situation.
