SINGAPORE: Seven hotels in Singapore received their first Michelin Keys, the hotel equivalent of the Michelin Stars for restaurants.

Among them, only Raffles Hotel Singapore earned three keys, while the remaining six, including Artyzen Singapore, Capella Singapore, Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, Mandarin Oriental Singapore, Parkroyal Collection Pickering, and Raffles Sentosa Singapore, received one each.

Describing the only three-key Raffles Hotel Singapore, the Michelin Guide website wrote: “The welcoming verandas, elegant suites, legendary bars and lush courtyards all affirm why it holds a Three Key distinction in Singapore. Guests often sense the weight of legacy, not just through the furnishings, but in the care and storytelling embedded in every detail.”

Singapore-owned hotels overseas also made the list. Hotel Setsu Niseko, by Singapore luxury property developer SC Global Developments, in Hokkaido, was awarded one Michelin Key for the second consecutive year, as reported by Asia One.

This year’s list included 1,742 hotels with one Michelin Key, 572 with two keys, and 143 with three keys. The Michelin Keys were first announced in April last year — now in its second year.

Inspectors consider five key criteria when selecting hotels: architecture and design, service quality and consistency, overall personality and character, value for money, and contribution to its local community.

Hotels can earn up to three keys: one for a very special stay, two for an exceptional stay, and three for an extraordinary experience that stands among the world’s finest. /TISG
