SINGAPORE: A 69-year-old man has tragically died following a physical altercation with his 71-year-old neighbour at Block 805 King George’s Avenue on 22 December. The older man was later arrested by the police.
According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, the altercation began when the younger man, identified as Chua Jintong (transliterated), approached his neighbour’s home armed with a rod.
The two had reportedly clashed earlier at the void deck of the block. While the specifics of the initial argument remain unclear, it is understood that Chua had become dissatisfied with an apology made by the older man.
Fueled by this dissatisfaction, Chua reportedly took the rod to his neighbour’s doorstep, demanding an explanation.
In response, the 71-year-old man allegedly pulled out a knife during the altercation. A physical confrontation then ensued, with Chua reportedly sustaining injuries.
Chua later collapsed and fell unconscious at the entrance to the lift lobby downstairs. It is believed that he had underlying heart issues.
The police have stated that initial investigations suggest the 69-year-old sustained injuries and collapsed before being transported to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
The 71-year-old man involved in the incident has been arrested for intentionally causing harm in a dangerous manner. The investigation is ongoing.
