SINGAPORE: A 50-year-old Singaporean man was arrested after Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers caught him attempting to smuggle drugs and related paraphernalia into Singapore.

Box 2

In a Facebook post, the ICA said the incident took place on Oct 17 at the Singapore Cruise Centre. Officers noticed the man appeared visibly nervous and initiated a more comprehensive inspection, where they detected an anomaly in the man’s carry-on luggage.

ICA officers found a syringe suspected to have been used for drug consumption, an object containing a small amount of suspected controlled substances, and seven pieces of drug paraphernalia.

When a swab test returned positive for methamphetamine, the man was immediately arrested and referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), which uncovered more drugs in the man’s possession, including ecstasy pills, Elimin 5 pills, methamphetamine, an e-cigarette, an e-cigarette cartridge, and additional drug-related paraphernalia.

A search of the suspect’s residence also led to the seizure of 15.5 grams of methamphetamine and more drug paraphernalia.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
