SINGAPORE: A 34-year-old man died after the lorry he was travelling in collided with another lorry along the Central Expressway (CTE) towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE), just before the Braddell Road exit, on 25 June.
The driver of the lorry carrying the deceased, a 24-year-old man, has been arrested for careless driving causing death.
Photos published by Lianhe Zaobao showed the aftermath of the crash, with a white lorry overturned on the road shoulder.
Several individuals were seen gathered behind the vehicle, while items believed to have been loaded onto the back of the lorry were scattered across the road.
The second lorry involved in the crash could be seen in the middle of the expressway, with its front-left area crumpled and its windscreen shattered.
A police car and a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicle were parked at the scene, with at least six police officers and two SCDF personnel in attendance.
Traffic in the area was congested for some time, as only one lane remained passable.
In response to media queries, the Singapore Police Force and SCDF confirmed they were alerted to the collision at around 1:55pm.
Upon arrival, a 34-year-old man was found trapped in the passenger seat of one of the lorries.
SCDF officers extricated him using hydraulic rescue equipment, and he was rushed unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the other lorry, a 32-year-old man, was also taken to the same hospital in a conscious state.
Police investigations are ongoing.
