Singapore police are investigating the unauthorised publication of personal data belonging to approximately 1,300 motorists, including individuals who had committed traffic violations.
According to the police and the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), the names and addresses were discovered online on 18 July.
The data was leaked following a ransomware attack on the systems of Toppan Next Tech (TNT), the printing vendor responsible for managing Traffic Police communications.
The CSA and the police disclosed the incident publicly on 24 July, although the cyberattack is believed to have taken place several months earlier.
TNT had received personal data from the Traffic Police, including names, residential addresses, NRIC numbers and details of traffic offences.
This data was intended for the printing and mailing of official documents to motorists.
Authorities have confirmed that only names and addresses—believed to be drawn from Traffic Police records—were found online.
There is currently no evidence to suggest that NRIC numbers or details of offences were included in the leak.
The police also clarified that the Traffic Police’s internal systems were not breached during the incident.
TNT’s systems were initially targeted on 1 April during a ransomware attack that also impacted two of its banking clients: DBS Bank and the Bank of China’s Singapore branch.
That attack compromised the personal information of over 11,000 banking customers.
TNT notified the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) of the incident on the evening of 6 April.
Authorities have since been working with TNT to bolster its cybersecurity defences.
TNT is also a printing contractor for the Elections Department and was responsible for printing poll cards and ballot papers during the recent 2025 General Election.
In response to the current data leak, police have stated they will notify each affected individual directly.
They also advised the public to monitor their personal accounts for any suspicious activity.
Individuals who detect any unusual transactions or breaches can report them via the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or through the website www.police.gov.sg/i-witness.
The CSA continues to support the investigation and has urged organisations handling sensitive data to enhance digital defences proactively.
